G&S : LARRY GORDON SIGNATURE SERIES
G&S is proud to introduce the exclusive, limited edition FibreFlex signed by the boarding industry’s iconic man himself: Larry Gordon.
Founding Gordon and Smith in 1959, Larry started making surfboards out of a California garage. Using his chemical engineering background, he was an innovator in foam core surfboards and used fiberglass to wrap the foam core. This technology replaced wood surfboards that were heavy and lost their resilience quickly. The technology revolutionized surfboards, and Gordon and Smith experienced explosive growth.
Then in 1964, Larry took his knowledge of surfboard construction, and in a pivotal breakthrough, applied it to the small but growing skateboard market. He innovated the use of fiberglass layered in the wood construction. Fiberglass provided strength which allowed skateboards to use less wood and become lighter. Fiberglass also provided a stronger flex which gave pop and resiliency to the board. FibreFlex was born and grew to selling over 500 boards per day. Larry found himself revolutionizing another boarding industry, cementing his core presence in the market.
Larry was one of the first to sponsor pro skaters and built a team around a new generation of surf inspired riders. Through the years, Larry sponsored dozens of team riders including Stacy Peralta, Chris Miller, Neil Blender and Rob Dyrdek who all made huge contributions to the sport, what we ride and how we ride it.
The team riders, in return, helped G&S become the number one selling skateboard company in the world. In June 2011, Transworld Skateboarding Magazine, ranked G&S as the number one selling skateboard of all time.
In honor of Larry Gordon’s unmatched contribution to the boarding world we love, G&S is releasing the first and only Larry Gordon Limited Edition Signature FibreFlex. This collector item is the merge of classic elements with modern construction details:
-
44” Classic Pintail design made of a solid aspen core with two solid mahogany hardwood stringers.
-
The board is then wrapped top and base in a special double weave fiberglass. Special edition FibreFlex logo is screen printed on the top and base.
-
Each Signature Edition has a unique series number on a mounted metal plate bearing Larry Gordon’s signature.
-
We go another step to embed an electronic microchip in the board with a unique RFID tag to validate authenticity.
Only 1,964 will be produced in the series to commemorate the first FibreFlex year: 1964. This limited edition intentionally reflects a mere fraction of the number of skate shops and collectors in the world, grasping its core value.
